My wife's 1999 Durango's transmission is starting to slip real bad. I've never been a fan of slush boxes, but I've seen what you guys can do to the Ram's. Are there any options for upgrading one for the Durango?
That is probably the same trans that is in mt 95' Ram 1500 gas burner. A 518 w/OD and lockup. I just rebuilt mine @ 145,000. If you get the master rebuild kit. They offer stock clutches as well as upgrade/ heavy duty clutches. You can also put a towing shift kit in it. A towing converter, as opposed to a stock torque converter. It all depends how much you want to spend. If you are not doing any towing a stock rebuild will suffice. The rebuild master kit and torque converter I was able to get for $250.
I have the towing package with this Durango, and the wife only drives it to her job and to Costco. Chrysler products are crap! Every aftermarket component that I have had to add to the Durango and Ram are still running while the OEM parts have failed immediately.
Next truck will be a Ford. Next car will be German.

If you have a 4. 7L V8 you have a 45RFE. ATS makes a high performance unit. If you have a six banger im not sure which transmission you have. I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee with this set up.
You're right about that. All most people need is a simple cast iron pushrod 2-valve engine. Much of today's engine technology is wasted on the average owner, but they become aware of it when it costs $1000 to replace a water pump. Some will say sophisticated engines are needed for performance and emissions compliance, I call BS on that. The latest generation Corvette does just fine with its old-fashioned pushrod 2-valve engine.
