Duramax goes down by SUV. LOL

Any one know anything about 99 power stroke? Brother has a 99 powerstroke that won't stay running. Starts and runs for a second or 2 then shuts off. Said it has had problems in the past during rain. Has to keep foot in it at stop light or it will shut down. Today is sunny and now this started. Any ideas? Its sitting at my house and I don't know anything about fords.
thanks for any help.

Check fuel pressure and oil pressure, then check compression. Could be as simple as fuel filter or bad electric fuel pump.

Yes, at the most elementary level you could call it a code reader. It's Ford's Integrated Diagnostic System. It does it ALL. You can test and/or monitor all parameters live, kill injectors, activate and deactivate systems, reprogram modules, read VIN's, lock codes, etc., etc.

I personally don't see how anyone could diag a problem on a Ford without it. AND, I've never understood why Dodge and Chevy don't have a similar system.

It could be any of a number of things. The first thing our PS tech would do is check the oil level. If engine oil is low the HEUI system won't work properly. How much fuel in the tank? If less than 1/2, fill it up and see if it makes a difference. Fuel pick-ups are known to fall off or stop up, causing fuel starvation at low levels.

It sounds like it could be a cam sensor. If you decide to throw parts at it, use factory Ford sensors. Don't waist your money on aftermarket.
