Well, now that I have all three, I can tell you what I like about each of them:

1st Gen: Nastalgic looks, Rides like a truck (There are some places on paved road I'm bouncing like crazy), seats are like sitting on the living room couch, rustic controls, easiest shock change out I ever saw. Easiest one to install 900 watt amp, CD changer, 4- 50oz 6X9 three-way speakers and 12" sub woofer.

2nd Gen: Has that great Peterbilt look, firm, but good ride, seats are real comfortable, noisiest (good thing) one of all, VP-44 (not), best ride (IMHO).

3rd Gen: Has that evolved big truck look, Most refined fit and finish of all the Gens, has enough power to not have to BOMB (but why wouldn't you?), ride would be better if tires were't low profile 70s (IMHO).

They're all great turcks and fun to drive.

After having all three - any comments about which is the most fun to BOMB?

Can't say for sure...

Tommygun:

The most fun so far: The 2nd Gen was the most involved: full exhaust, DDII injectors, TST PM3 Adjustable, Scotty II, and 5 guages. The VP-44 died just before warranty went out and was replaced under warranty.

The 3rd gen was the easiest... fueling box, Aeroturbine, 3 guages and and AFE.

This has potential to be lots of fun: The hard part is I've just started with the 1st Gen having only owned it about 6-weeks. Just turned up the pump and advanced the timing. I've been replacing all the fluids and checking everything out. Might need a clutch before any real BOMBING

The one with the P7100. Oh, he doesn't have one of those. :D Good to see you're still on the boards, Ron. Haven't seen anything from you lately. Guess I'll have to start looking at the 1st gen threads. Got pics of it, yet?

hi Jim

Jim

How's life in the big city? I've shot a couple of posts out there when I was getting ready to buy and after I bought the 1st Gen. It had the original shocks on it. I bought 4 Monroe Gas Magnum LTs for it... easiest shock job I've done. This '93 is pretty sweet... not too bad for $4. 5K. I'm driving it lots to keep miles down on my 02. Viv's bringing the digital camera to Del Rio this weekend to take pics of all three... only thing is they 3 need to be washed. :{ I'll post 'em after we take the pics.

Looks like you got the 3rd gen a little fired up... I knew you would.

Viv and I are thingking about coming up for one of the MDTDR events. kinda like the Fall, but we may have to settle for after I retire 31 Mar 06. Wanna have max terminal leave :D

Great to hear from ya.

Take care, Ron

Well my comments pretty much mirror yours. Only a few things I have to add the 92 paint sucked. 03 bodywork is to thin and dents real easy I wish for a 100-200 heavier truck with decent sheet metal especially in the box my bed looks like the ocean with a wave at every crossmember :{ the 96 is the only one with any bombs (transmission and fuel plate) but the 03 still runs away from it. Tire life on the 3rd gens seems to be better than the sec gens and looks like it will go as far as my 1st gen (~80k a set as opposed to 50-60k on 2nd gen). 3rd gen gets the big nod for brakes it scares me when I get in the 2gen those brakes really are worthless (it takes over twice the brake PSI on 2nd gen to stop as 3rd gen as measured on brakesmart controller) turning radius on 03 even with long bed and 4 doors is as good as long box std cab 92.

put best part all trucks have had little nagging things wrong with them but never have left me stranded, I guess you can say they talk to me and let me know there is a problem.
