Ford's New Gasser 7.3L

For those of you who enjoy build threads

Ive been kicking around the idea of obtaining a 1st Gen 4x4 as a winter time beater to try and keep my other rides from the rust.

Any particular 1st gen's and their problems I should stay away from?

Big I have an 04 that might fit your needs also. interior and power train is in great shape, however body needs some paint attention. PM if you have any interest.

I like the 1st Gen's but there were a slew of problems I didn't like........cab cracking below the windshields, front leaf spring mount rivets would get pounded out.......beds cracking, etc. You talking gas or diesel? Lot's of early 2nd gen gassers out there now that can be had cheap and only need minor repairs to have a comfy winter beater with a heater!

Im looking for a less complicated life and trying to get any from COMPUTERS

The diesels were great as we all know but the trucks left a lot to be desired. As I mentioned, they had quite a few front end related problems, body problems, etc. The are simple though! The problem with 1st gen diesels is the price they fetch if they have a good body and interior. Crazy money. I've got a 1st gen gasser and have had folks offer silly money for it......

When I went back to Commiefornia to liberate some Asylum seekers with a way out of the Communist state, one of them that I worked with had a cab & a 1/2 1st gen that he offered me, its not 4x4 but that isn't a TRUE NECESSITY for Indiana as our winters aren't all that bad.

I was just checking out the possibilities of a older Chevy or Ford conversion to a 12 valve

The 1st gen 4x4's ride rough, period. I have 326k on a 91.5, 4x2 D-250, 5spd, it does not owe me a dime. The 91.5-93 are the best...bigger radiator, intercooler, better vacuum pump, bigger oil pump/piston cooling and 4spd auto v/s 3spd auto, if you go auto.

Good info here: http://dodgeram.org/ram.html

My 92 was awesome. If it had a back seat, I’d probably still be driving it. I don’t know if they’re still out there, but skyjacker front springs really helped the ride.

I'm telling you, I've watched this guys site for at least 3 or 4 years. He gets some great stuff.

I even called him once to ask a question when I was working on my GM square body. Very nice guy and knows his stuff.

Big if you want a first gen send me a message and I will lend a hand where I can . finding a good 1 is Pretty Easy .
