I may have just lucked into a 6spd for CHEAP. My question is what does it take to put a 6 spd in a 1st gen truck, can I keep my NP 205 transfer case or will I have to do something else? Has anyone done this or know someone who could help?

Hey Mprtrpr!

Back in issue #26 (pg# 47)of the TDR magazine a person by the name of Mark Chalkly / Eastern VA. has a write up about a NVG5600 conversion into a '93 W250. No email address is included w/ the article.

Check it out if you have a copy or PM me & I'll fax you the article.

KEENO :D

Guys:

There is an article in the lastest issue also, #33. They said it was quite expensive, everything that has to be done to convert the Getrag to the NV 4500, driveshaft changes, and no speedometer due to a change there. Hope you find the article I'm talking about.

I saw the article in the latest issue, it didn't help much as the truck was 2wd, mine is 4wd. The speedo is in the transfer case so no problem there. Keeno, I would appreciate a copy of the article, I'll PM you with an address. Thanks.

If I remember correctly there are 2 types of 6-speeds. The one before the DEE would probably be an easier swap as I remember it used the NV4500 clutch. I could be wrong though.

DEE is the current 6-speed mated to the HO Cummins. They started with a different 6-speed in 1999 although they are rare.
