I once was contacted by a man who had visited this forum and saw a post by me expressing my desire to find a 1st gen crewcab. I was interested until he told me it was 2wd. Anyway, today he sent me pictures and told me to share with anyone who is interested.
I replied and asked for all the info and price and location. (It's been months since he first contacted me) As soon as he replies, I'll edit this post with updated info.

I think I spoke with this guy a month ago about this one ! DOT has mandated a 75" sleeping bearth in all hotshots so I elected to spend the $ 2400. 00 on a custom built sleeper unit for my 1st gen. I was thinking about the other as an other hotshot as the extra room but DOT has killed that idea. Only a $ 500. 00 fine ouch..... Mike

That is a lot of money for sure. When I built mine, I started with a truck from CA for $2,500 + a $1000 for shipping. The 4X4 conversion came from a 85 factory 4X4 Crew Cab that I bought for $400(it had been hit on the drivers side rear door and cab, but had no rust)I was going to fix that one but a K car hit the truck at 45 MPH while it was parked(also has a 25' boat attached to the truck at the time !). After parting out the other hit crew cab and building the new one I had into the new truck about $3000 total (made money on the parts I sold). The Cummins came from a 1991 4X2 with a Centurion sleeper and a Getrag 5 speed that I bought for $2650. by the time that I removed all the things I needed to convert my truck into a Cummins Diesel, and sold the body/frame/rear end of the 91, I had covered the cost of the truck and then some #ad
. What has cost me the most is the TOTAL rebuild of the Cummins. I have spent about $2800 just for parts new pistons, rings, wrist pins/bushing, bearings, lube pump, cam, lifters, valves/seats/guides/seals, water pump and not to mention a rebuilt injection pump, starter, vacuum pump and other things I can't remember. machine work was about $450 (I had the Cummins balanced). And don't forget the Getrag, I spent about $800 on getting it converting to 4X4 and new bearings/seals(I bought a blown 4X4 Getrag for $375 and sold the left over parts to the trans shop for $100) so current total is around $7000. Ok maybe if you figure the time and labor, the price is not that bad #ad

1985 DODGE 1 ton Crew Cab(imported from California with no rust) W/8' box converted to 4X4(wasn't that hard to do!) in 1999,converted to a 1991 Cummins Turbo diesel & 5 speed Getrag in 2000(wife can't drive a stick :). 4:10 gears, limited slip rear end, 205 transfer case, 16" Goodyear GSA Wranglers and LE Package and a Sony CD Stereo. A one of a kind truck(Wish Dodge would build a new Crew Cab in 1 ton. Last year for the Crew Cab was 1985)If you want to know why I did all of this, 2 kids, one on the way and I can't stand Ford and Chevy. Kyle Hoover ,Fruitport, MI
