Can anyone tell me the biggest diameter exhaust one can put on a 92 Cummins? I wanted to go 4" but have heard that is too much need to go with 3 1/2". Any pricing figures? The old one is rotting off from the muffler back. I would like to replace with mandrel bent from the turbo back and get rid of the muffler.

Here is a good way to go. If your down pipe is still good you may just want to get the other pieces. You can even get it without the muffler and I think they have a piece of pipe to replace it. Just click on the link.

I hope this helps. Or at least you have some place to start.

Ron,

I can't give you any prices, but look at most any of the advertisers on TDR that offer exhausts. There are quite a few folks on this board that run 4".

The main reason I replied is to say that you have a mighty sharp rig!!! Oo. Oo. Oo.

Thanks guys. The Cummins shop in Great Falls recommended just replacing everything from the muffler back. $$ are a concern, but we just turned up the pump and the turbo and I am looking for the best balance between hp/mpg. I am also looking for a smaller turbo housing.

I have never had any dealings with them, but others here say they make a good system, and you can buy individual pieces. I bought 2-45s, 2-90s, and had some 4' flex pipe and muffler given to me to make up my system. I have 4" from about 6" past the turbo (just past the first elbow) out the rear outlet. Makes a big difference in turbo spoolup, dropped EGT, and may have gained 1/2 to 1mpg, depending on how heavy my foot is. The beauty of a turbo diesel is, when you add more power, and use it wisely, you will normally gain a little MPG, too. Kind of a use it only when necessary deal.

Just bought 91 - 250 - automatic od. The truck seems real tight with 190,000 miles. I will be towing a 29 ft. fifth wheel - about 11,000#. I am considering Flowmaster exhaust system (about $600. 00). I would appreciate any feedback/advice on my new truck. I live at Arizona Charlies RV park in Las Vegas and loved checking out all your equipment during your recent get together. As I said any feedback/suggestions/advice etc. will be appreciated.

Guys,

If you want a nice 4" system that fits like a glove call Rip Rook AtSource Automotive he has a great system for these old beasts ,and have him send you the j hook kit for making hangers ...

PMcMahon, I'd say put that $600 somewheres else in your truck. With little ponies theres hardly any gains to bigger exhaust.

Wow thats a heavy 5th wheel, puts you near the gcvwr doesn't it. . big load. . hope you have gauges, especially a transmission temp gauge for that auto trans. Hey theres a place you can spend some of that $600, gauges, if you don't have them already!

BTW welcome to the TDR, if you really want answers, suggestions etc, sometimes you will get more exposure if you post your own thread.

I recently upgraded to a 4 inch system. The downpipe is 3 inch or whatever is stock, then it's 4 inch from there back. I kept the muffler in the system.

I got mine from Janetty because the shipping from Rip was too much to the east coast. I think the system is similar.

I got some pretty decent performance gains with the larger system, even though I'm not one of the high hp trucks on this board...

I got a few psi gain in boost, almost instant spool-up, and greatly reduced cool down time.

Oh yea... sounds good too

:D
