1ST Gen light replacements

I’ve got an 86 1/2 ton with factory 2 bolt, tiny mirrors. They are loose and flop all over....what needs to be done to install Genoes 1990 and newer 1st gen non power mirrors?

I've never done it. By the half-page description in the SM there is a "reinforcement" plate inside the door, instead of the "tapping plate" for the small manual mirror. The two existing holes may line up for the top two of the 6x9 base (no dims in the book). It also shows the four-post "low profile" mirror if you want to do four nut inserts:(

I figured that I'd run into some work to make it happen......I'm on a road trip but when I get back I'm going to pull the trigger and get the mirrors ordered up from Geno's. I'll post some pics of what it takes to make it happen. I wondered if it would be better to make a backing plate with rivnuts for the install.

The install went well. I can say if anyone reading this does the install, take your time with the door panels! At 34 years old, the panels are a little brittle and are NOT available anywhere new.....like most older Mopar truck stuff. Luckily my panels were ok condition but I'm going to paint them while they are off.

The mirrors went in without a hitch and after using the tapping plate as a template from the original mirrors I made a larger doubler out of aluminum to ad strength for the larger new mirrors. They look factory and I can SEE NOW!
