I am planning to install speakers behind the seat in the cab of my first gen truck. I would like to add these to accomodate my new chrysler combo radio/tape/cd player that I bought off of ebay. I went to walmart and bought a pair of 6x9's, but after looking at how to mount them I am not particularly happy with the fit. Is there anyone that has a parts truck with speakers(and associated mounting pieces) or has removed the factory speakers to install nicer speakers. I have read complaints about the factory speakers, but I am much more concerned about the look than the sound. They have to be better than no speakers!

Please help, speakerless in Illinois.

Dan

P. S. My wonderfull wife bought me a HX35 with a 16cm housing from Piers for Christmas, so I am really on the way now!!!

:D :D :D You know from the looks of your mileage you don't drive enough to worry about speakers!:D :D :D Might try a place like autozone that has some "truck" speaker boxes or maybe wal-mart otherwise for factory ones prolly have to go to the bone yard.

Actually, I bought a set of boxes for the 6x9s planning to simply set them in the tool tray, but they do not leave enough room to push the seat all the way back. I would really like to find someone that has removed their factory pieces or is parting out a truck. Unless someone else has a better idea.

Thanks

Dan

Dan - The factory rear speakers are 4x10, and the 6x9's won't fit on the brackets (I tried:(). I ended up with the pre-made boxes on the tool tray for the time being, but will custom make some smaller pieces when I get time... or maybe just pick up some good 4x10s and be done with it:p. I'm vertically challenged so the seat doesn't need to go back all the way right now. :D

4x10's have never really been known to produce good sound. And because of that, they are harder to find. Mine were buzzing, so I just disconnected them. A friend of mine had a 6" sub speaker in a tube (I cant remember what they are called. I am also not one of those people who drives around with their radio cranked up) that he didn't need, so he gave it to me. It fits nicely in the tool tray between my gun racks. I can put one gun on top. If I need more room, it has quick disconnects so it can be easily removed. I have a CD player that can send low frequencies to the rear, and mid to high frequencies to the front. It sounds pretty good. Not quite as good as the Cummins though. I am not saying that is what you should do, just offering another possibility.

For my truck I put 6X9s where the 4X10s used to be, I cut the stock brackets to fit the 6X9 template. What you end up with are 2 pieces that bolt to the new speaker and fit the stock holes in the cab of the truck. the 6X9s tuck in nicely and are out of the way. On second thought this may not work for extend cab trucks, I don't know how the speakers mount in those trucks:(

On the CC they mount into a box and there isn't room for anything bigger.

I have been wanting to throw together a small vacuum forming setup and make some bigger boxes for these trucks. Bad thing it is way down the list of to do items. :(

I had a set of 6x9's lay around for over a year before I tackled this job. I was planning on using a couple of boxes that a buddy gave me, but like all of ya have already found out... , nothin' fits:mad:

Luckly my father is an awsome fabricator/woodworker/thinker... etc. so he made a couple of boxes to mount where the factory ones were using the existing brackets and holes. Finished prouduct looks great and sounds even better. This is a custom job just like everything else is getting to be on our old trucks:( :)

Okay, That was what I thought. Now would anyone who has replaced/disconected their factory speakers be willing to sell me their original pieces. I would even be interested if the factory ones were not working. Come on, I know there is someone out there that could use a few bucks and is tired of their old speakers sitting in the corner.

speakers

I got them and would be proud to sell them to you , i'll have to find them ,i think there in the truck still,... ... yes I looked and there still were the dodge boys put them. pm me or something and we'll do something. :D .

paychk and Dieselman359: Do either (both?;)) of you have pics of your custom mounts? That would be a big help for when I get ready to move mine. Thanks:)

I fit Polk 6x9s in all of the factory locations of my 92 regular cab,

The 6x9s will fit in the metal brackets behind the seat with a little massaging. and they slipped right into the doors,

I am using a Kenwood mp3 player deck with a 4x50watt rating, sounds great. I even had one of my "Stereo Geek" buddies ask if I had put in an amp it sounded so good.

mopar2ya,

I sent you a pm and am waiting to hear from you. I am interested in the speakers.

... If anyone else has these speakers and associated mounting hardware available let me know.

Thanks

Dan
