1st gen teardown - 6/7 Aug, Monster Garage style!

Folks -

TJ and I are planning to disect my '93, probably this weekend, including front clip removal (what's left of it), engine pull, trans pull, and whatever else comes as a result of all that. TJ is getting the TCI converter from my trans and I'm mothballing the rest of the rig until the rebuild commences next Spring. I'm also going to fabricate a serious engine rotisserie for my Cummins right on the spot, probably Sunday. If we do it early then we'll be tearing apart his '93 to do the transmission work. So either way, we're wrenchin' heavy this weekend.

Anyone that is interested in some serious wrenchin' feel free to reply back and I'll beam directions.

Oh, we're planning to burn some steaks and brats Sat night, so eats and beers will be readily available. The shop/driveways are big enough for lots of rigs, lots of folks, and lots of fun. The air tools and compressor will be earning their cost.

Just thought I'd ping the membership to see if there is any interest in watching/participating in some serious wrenchin'. We're doing it either way, but it's always fun to have some buds in da house for this kind of stuff, and since we're completely dismantling the rig it should be a good learning experience for working on a Cummins chassis. Cool - hope to see ya.

Hasta,

- Sam

Cool Andrew! The more the merrier. I know it'll be a learning experience for TJ and I and we're stoked about it... and TJ has alterior motives as he's getting the TCI converter and rear leaf springs :-laf

Directions: I-25 South into Colorado Springs, take the Briargate exit heading East (Briargate exit is just South of Interquest exit and North of Academy exit - all on the North end of town). Take Briargate several blocks to the new road/construction area to Powers Rd - go South (right) a mile or two, get in left lane, and make a left on Woodman Rd. Take Woodman Rd about 4 miles, past the tan water tank (on your right), to Meridian Rd. Head North (left) on Meridian for a mile, right at the flags on Woodman Hills Rd. Go one block and make another right on Tompkins Rd, go two blocks and on your far right is a big blue house with white doors, and a matching big blue shop just past it. That's me. Park in front of the shop next to the wooden skeleton (unfinished) shed, or just past that in the red rock driveway.

If you want to bring a couple 2-liters of soda that'd be great - we have lots to spike it with ;) . My number is (719) 494-6688 if there are any problems.

I think 'Spoon might come down too. Cool dude - See you Saturday.

Sam. I had a Great time. Learned some good stuff, and hopefully made a couple of friends. Quite the host you are! Keep up the good work. Oh yeah... I forgot to say thanks for the pizza. Thanks! Hope we can do it again, soon!

Andrew

The engine pull went very smoothly thanks to the help of several folks including Idually (thanks Andy - huge help dude) who came down from Denver for the day, TJ, Bob, Bob, and Rob.

We tore the rig apart - removed/cut off the front clip, scrapped the wrecked sheetmetal, pulled the hardware off the engine, loosed the converter, and yanked the engine. It was tighter than I thought it would be, but it eventually popped out with a little help of a prybar getting the flexplate to clear the bellhousing.

I'm also planning a KDP killin' party at the ranch for anyone interested. Same deal - food and beer/soda always on tap. Stay tuned for details - either way I'm killing my KDP and resealing the case, but look for probably some time in October.

Anyways, some pics from the other day:

Here's me and my broken rig :{

Engine stand I made today - the engine flips verses rolls - very stable and simple

Rear mount - all plugs are accessable

P-side mount - uses the motor mounts as the main support for the weight of the engine -just like the factory
