My buddy broke his Dana 70 (to pieces) in his '97 and has found an entire axle with Dana 70 plus l/s out of a '93. It will be much cheaper than buying a new unit. Is this a bolt-in swap? I know it has the speed sensor; anything else he needs to look for?

Also, is the 2nd Gen Dana 80 a direct swap?

BTW, he's a TDR member but has limited internet access. :)

While we're at it, how much gear oil in our 70's? I'm about to change mine (every 100k or so whether it needs it or not... :-laf).

Thanks!

3 1/2 to 4 quarts, depending on how effectively you drain it.

Put an 80 in it, especially with towing or mods. Break an 80 and consider yourself to have accomplished something.

Sorry, it was not specified front or rear, but I guess you don't see to many d70 front axles in 3500 and below trucks.
