changing a hy35 to a hx35 with 14cm exhaust

Why a K&N filter?

If you got the cash, do a 4" exhaust and induction like the K&N RE-0880 or the Phsycotty kit. They will be an inprovemnet and both will help to lower EGT's

penner:

If you're gonna go with the EZ, you don't need the PS boost control; it's built in to the EZ (I'm almost positive of this). The VA may cause you to break the "VOID" sticker on your pump, indicating tampering. Therefore, you should go with the EZ, which attaches in a different place near the MAP sensor and lift pump.

Personally, I would recommend some DD II's and the PS boost module. I think this would give you the most bang for the buck, and you WOULD leave your daddy in law in the dust... er... smoke!

I don't think you'll have EGT problems with any of the options you are considering.

Tmpenner,

I pulled with a friend that had a 99 CC lariat, 6 spd, 4:10's. Stock for stock we pulled the same with the exception of a few times when his split between 3-4-5 had the advantage over my 3-4 split. Other than that he NEVER out pulled me or me him. You have the HO so you should be fine. The only time I had trouble was unloaded running stop light to stop light against him.

I added the VA, PS boost module and handed him his a$$, then added 275's and I don't worry about being out pulled by most anyone. I know there are trucks with much more power than mine but pulling a hill I think if you go much over this power level you run into EGT problems not allowing you to use the power. I never exceed 1200 pre-turbo and it takes higher altitudes to reach that.

I agree the EZ is the way to go if you are just starting. You'll get the same performance as the VA/PS combo for less dollars. The 275's or DD1's added make it a very nice complete towing package IMO.

tmpenner, put an EZ on my truck tuesday, all i can say is you will love it. None of the void stickers are tampered with when installing this box. It simply plugs in between the map sensor and the factory harness and another plug to the data link conector. The boost module is built in, and it comes with a boost elbow. With the elbow, it only took me about 10 min to install. I have mine on the most aggressive setting (timing and fuel at 2psi boost) smoke is not a problem. IMO I have been told that it should actually lower egt's, but have not installed my gauges as of yet. Phil

Matt, like most have said, on the 2001's, the EZ is the better choice, because you're not tampering with void stickers. Plus, it does have the built in boost module. Add this and some injectors, and the package is complete. The EZ alone works great, no doubt. Combine this with some 275's or DD1's, and you'll have a big smile on your face. If you decide one way or the other, give me a shout.

I have asked this question before, i have a 2001 Auto 4x4. Can i use an EZ box without any harm?. I anever tow or haul, i just want extra power for cruising and passing sometimes. I have EGT and Trans Temp gauges, couldnt i use the ez as long as i watched my Trans temp and EGT's and stayed at safe levels?. Or will my transmission blow shortly after install?

EMDDiesel, Yes you can use the EZ on your truck. You will have no EGT trouble with it. The transmission should be OK if you are not mashing the go-pedal at low RPM, keep the RPM up and you will be OK.

1. Gauges: can be inexpensive to very expensive (SPA). Most are good. Go with what your budget allows.
2. PS Boost Module: if you use the VA #ad

3. No opinion
4. PS High Idler: You will love it, a flip of the switch and your at 1150-2000 RPM and maintaining normal operating Temps and it’s a piece of cake to install #ad

5. EZ or VA: Both are good, and some say you will get more out of the EZ on setting #3, and will be less $.

Warranty? That depends on your dealer #ad

Gauges FIRST !!!
Then try the EZ alone, really makes the ETH move out. Add anymore while towing and you might be on the short track to Clutchville, USA. Your egt's should be fine with the EZ alone, be sure to put the supplied boost elbow on to realize the gain. If the egt's get to high, try out the Pyscotty air system, it really does work and you get the added benefit of a built in dog whistle #ad

Planning on spending the summer hauling 6-8 horses to teampennings chasing my in-laws P. S. around. I'm not looking to pass him just safely keep up without spending alot of $. Here is what I'm thinking for mods:
1. Guages 2. Practical Solutions boost module(for safer egt) 3. Jake or Pac Brake 4. High Idler 4. EZ or VA box. Warranty issues and Dollar issues will apply! Opinions appreciated!

Relax, with the ho I don'think you will have any trouble keeping up with the ps. Especially if both of you are loaded. The EZ will make a world of difference.
