What to expect in the mountains?

Hello Hello,

This site is very interesting and educational, still trying to find my way around. Anyways I just bought a 1993 250 from my dad who took excellent care of the truck and I got a hell of a deal on it. Been making some needed repairs and I just had the injection pump replaced. Well I took it home this morning and when I went to leave later on in the afternoon there was a pop in the steering column and a little smoke came out, it smelled as if something was burning. Now it will not turn over and the wait to start light will not come on. Does the ignition switch simply need replaced or is there something that sits behind the tilt steering gears because that is where the smoke appeared to come from. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to TDR. The first gen forum is the place you'll want to set up camp. To answer your question, the previous owner mentioned a similar experience to yours. The truck has tilt steering, and a wire came apart or shorted and the truck wouldn't run. I just leave the tilt in one position, so as not to have the same trouble. I don't know the fix for your problem but there might be some guys on the first gen forum who know.

Thanks dave. I have a buddy that is going to help me with the instalation on the ignition and he suggested that I pull the starter as well because its the original and may be pulling to much current which could have caused the ignition to go. Anyways thanks for the info and I am glad to be a part of TDR.
