Well, after a whole lot of head scratchin' I finally bought and installed an Edge EZ. I finally decided to do it mostly because of my new 5ver. The HO pulled pretty good already, but I needed a little more on some of these monster hills I hit leaving out of So. Cal. The install was quick, (even though DC did their best to hide the Data Link) and the instructions were good.
The first impression really was not that dramatic, probably due to the 6 speed. The shift points are close (on purpose) and you don't get a lot of speed between shifts in town. On the highway I noted a big difference stepping down on the go pedal in 5th or 6th.
But the real test was the first tow. I pulled down to San Diego area and hit a few good inclines. The response was dramatic. So much in fact, that I may have to keep my foot out of it in the lower gears, because the Cummins will now over power the stock clutch. This is felt by a mild "shudder" it I hit it too hard with the 12k of 5ver in back. When I'm rolling in 5th or 6th I did not notice the shudder, just an incredible difference in the power on the hills. I came back from SD on a trip that I made many times before, and knew I would have to down shift to keep the speed up at certian grades. NOT THIS TIME
And on top of that, it appears that the milage went up about 2-3 mpg:--) I am going to love this on the trip to Idaho this summer.
Gotta go see if I can get this grin off my face before work, people think your simple minded... ... ... .
