Need a winch for my Flatbed trailer ... what to get?

Anyone running a rear locker?

Hi,

Well went for my 1st Tow with my new truck and trailer this past weekend. The truck I purchased last fall a 3500 with the 305/555 engine and 48RE trans (see my signature for my list of mods). The trailer is a Terry Quantum 300BHS, which I just got last week.

So after packing up on Friday morning we headed west into the Rockies. The drive was 3-4 hours with grades up to 8% and good driving conditions.

Well the Cummins made me grin all the way it pulled every grade with ease, the 48RE worked good as well. My only complaint was it doesn't seem to downshift soon enough for my liking. It didn't seem to shift down till around 1100RPM and that seemed to work the engine, although the Pyro only reached 800 (post turbo) and it never really got there very often.

My BD engine brake and Tow-loc is not working correctly but I did try it once on a good decline and it really works, in fact wouldn't want to be without one in the hills.

So after anguishing over this combination I am most impressed with the 5. 9 Cummins.

That first tow really shows you why you bought the Cummins. I can't keep the grin off my face (and I can HARDLY keep from passing everyone else just because I can).

add an ez and a high flow air filter and you will be complete. i promise once you have it you will be gald you did $400 and you have a towing machine.

Well I had my truck in for service this week and I took of my Edge chip prior to taking it in. After getting the truck back I took my trailer out to the RV dealer without the chip and it is a very noticeable difference in power. I guess I really never appreciated that increase until now.

Now can't wait for the Edge Attitude ;)
