I'm wanting to get some Fabtech 2. 5 inch replacement coils so I can get my 315's which I'll be needin' soon. I was originally going to get a complete lift kit, but for costs I've decided to do the supsension a peice at a time (springs, dual shocks, DT track bar, control arms, etc) since I want my bigger treads now, not later.

Can I just add the springs without the other stuff, especially the control arms with the 2. 5 lift? Or will the lift move the axle too much without them? Will it effect any other components if I just use the springs alone?

Walker,

I have 3" of lift with none of the components you mentioned. I did shorten the shock towers by a couple of inches - the stock shocks would "top out" even on mild bumps. Also, one of my sway bar links is slightly tweaked - I think an adjustable track bar would probably have prevented that. My 36's have never hit the body even with some moderate wheelin'. My wheels increased my track width slightly (about 1" total) so the tires don't hit the stock control arms. I'm pretty happy with my setup, but that's just one guy's opinion.

BTW - when you do the lift make sure to loosen all of the control arm bolts so the bushings are not "wound up".

Hey DTW,

I think I've talked to you before about your setup, but in case I haven't...

I want to run the 36" Denman Coyotes as well. You say they fit your 3" lift without rubbing. What kind of lift do you have (f & b)?

Also, you said you have the stock control arms, track bar, pitman arm, etc... . ? I hope I could get away with that and get the Denmans (which I REALLY want) over the 315 BFG's.

Do you have any pics? In Readers Rigs your album is empty.

Thanks for you input.

Walker...

I know that numerous members are running the Skyjacker 2. 5" coils. They are sold at Summit racing for 140 bucks for the pair. If you don't modify the shock mounts you really should get new shocks. Unless you do some serious offroading where articulation is a big deal, springs should work just fine. Any more than the 2. 5 coils you would need to get the whole kit. As far as 36" tires fitting with the coils only... . I would test fit before you buy them as there might not be enough clearance. Good luck. :)

BTW, I am running 315's with no lift at all. If you are still running the stock rims you might be able to get the tires first. I rub slightly on the control arms at full lock but have plenty of clearance in the fender wells. Keep in mind that if you use aftermarket wheels and they stick out farther than stock, you will rub on the fender wells instead of the control arms. It isn't a big deal to rub a little paint off the control arms... ... . it another story to rub through your fender wells. :D

Walker,

I am running 36" denman Coyote's. I just have leveling springs in front. Rear is stock. Tires come close to rubbing in front, but have not hit yet.

HemiDart,

What lift coils do you have, and how are you liking the Coyotes? I've heard that Denman now has a heavier rated version of the Coyotes available.

Have you had any bad suspension related effects from running just the coils only? Alignment, steering, etc. ??

Walker,

I have the Skyjacker 2. 5" Coils. The Coyote's are wearing well. Very pleased. I would look into the heavier version. The older Coyote's are a 6 ply, load range C. Not a real strong tire. With the tall sidewall, I get some flex, which in turn gives an impression of sloppy steering. Not that bad at all.

No problems what so ever with steering components. Everything aligns fine, no funny wear patterns on the tires, no strange noises. The front axle is off-center by about 1/2" due to the coils. It does not seem to adversly effect anything, and you have to measure to see it.
