Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Got Some Twin Questions...

Just tried adding some 2 cycle oil plus some PS . .

Topped of the tank with 10 gallons of fuel and 7 oz's of PS and 7 oz's of

2 cycle oil, QUIET. .

With the Smarty on Fuel saver program the truck rattled quite a bit,

'Pinged' , I have been using PS 'Grey' , thought I would try some 2 cycle.

Big difference, and only 6-7 oz's, in a tank full of fuel .

Engine really sounds good, nice diesel noise, almost like a CR,,

Seems to idle better and run smoother at low rpm . Even the trans rattle

seems quieter:

Sounds like a commercial for " wonder additive"

Now, I keep asking , how can just a few oz's make a difference?

Is in my "want to believe " mental state,?

Also: Something else: On the Smarty;

When I first installed it I started with Fuel Saver sw, First thing I noticed

after the WOW factor, was, it shifted better;

Before, I could never feel the engine rpm with the 'Go Pedal'

With the SMarty, It seems I am driving an old mech pump, able to match rpm and gear speeds, ( don't even have to think about it ) like the old days. .

Just relieve some pressure on the clutch and slide into the next gear...

On sw 3 & 5 also better than stock, but not as smooth.

Went back to stock setting: " What was Dodge thinking " It's a dog,

Can't wait for some more 98-02 tweeking from Marco...

Like , Getting rid of the stupid " Auto Throttle "

I have been testing Fuel Saver lately. I notice more ping at idle over stock, but not bad in the 2250 - 2500 rpm range where I generally shift at. With Fuel Saver SW and the TST set on 3 or 4 I can get plenty of rpm lift over stock SW.

The smoke is better than just running stock plus the TST. Thats why I am trying it out.

I have ran 2 stroke oil for about 25k about 8oz per 25 gallons. I am not sure it helped my dead and / or dying VP44. But it seemed to help me feel better about something for a reason I can't exactly explain. Never noticed any difference in engine noise.

Well , I to have a dieing VP, Get code with smarty settings,
seems to be ok with stock setting

Trying to figure where the most reliable pump can be had,,,,,
only want to do i once in my life time

I do like the fuel saver mode, really smooth power, see what next tank of fuel
gets me for milage, last tank of Smarty power was 21. 5,
slightly less than stock,21. 9

I really drive easy, but like the throttle feel of the smarty 'fuel saver'

I liked the way fuel saver mode ran as well. Nice linear throttle feel. It was just too friggin "rattly" for my blood. . Much quieter on stock SW. Too bad they couldnt have given us a stock sw with the ABS, no boost & rpm limits. Maybe added just a slight timing advance like the diesel dynamics version of the ez. But... guess we just arent important enough for big ol madselectronics. .

PRout, try some 2 cycle oil in the fuel, Really made my engine run quite,
no rattly noise, I was amazed how much difference it made.

RJ Thanks for the suggestion. I used to add 2 stroke oil sometimes when I didnt have any other additives now I run on mostly biodiesel which makes it run about the quietest Ive found. Have run it with stock software and with the fuel saver. I think it did help some and may be a perfect match for programs with high advance on the timing. Also, running that much timing is not going to help engine longevity at all, especially while pulling heavy.

I really just prefer the stock sw. The truck doesnt have the snap off the bottom as some other high performance programs give it, but it is way smoother overall, and if you live in an area where there is alot of stop and go traffic stock sw is much easier to drive with. There is no bucking or surging at low rpms at all.

If I want/need more power I just turn the knob. Thats what the Blue Chip APB box is for. Its literally just a knob on the dash. If you want more power, just turn it up. Sweet and simple. Can still spin the stock turbo into orbit at over 38psi which is what the wastegate is set for.

I feel this setup gives the widest range of power options that Ive had yet, and the motor isnt loping at idle or rattling as bad as it did with the advanced timing. But it drives with very good manners. If that makes sense.

I ended up going to the dealer and had the ABS updated to put the speedo dead on, so basically my smarty is an expensive code reader and without even receiving any replies from madselectronics about future upgrades, my smarty programmer is going on the list of upgrades that didnt work out and is up for sale.

While 2-stroke oil works well, if you havent already, you should try some biodiesel and see how that stuff works. Its got almost all the properties we want, smooth burn, motor runs quieter, lubricity, cleans the fuel system, less emissions/exhaust smell, its not toxic to the soil if you spill it, etc. The only drawback I can think of is its gel point is not very good.

Don't think i'll do the bio diesel, afraid of "gunk "

Plus, I think corn should be eaten & sometimes poured into a glass. .

I like the Smarty wide power band, That lag up to 1900 rpm (stock) was frustrating. ( I drive with low rpm )
but My pump is dieing and I have not driven any other power adder,
so have nothing else to compare it to... .

Guess we will see if smarty has any more releases, but, so far i'm
satisified with it...

Yea, I dont understand the lag up to 1900 thing. Mine pulls from 1300 up and starts flattening off at bout 21-2200 without a box to extend the rpm range. Guess we just have different setups. And I hear ya on the corn thing. . :-laf
