"Death Wobble" going on! HELP!

On my way back from Anchorage yesterday,I had the cruise set and A/C on. I had to tap the brakes a couple times and when I hit the resume button, nothing happened. I had to turn the cruise off and turned it back on and hit set,and it worked..... kinda. The cruise light stays on when the system is on,even if not working. I couldn't raise my speed hitting the button or resume,it would start to coast. At the same time, the A/C stopped blowing out the vents,no matter which way I turned the dial. It would only blow out the heater vents and a tad bit of air out the defrost and A/C vents. If I hit the expansion joints on a couple bridges the A/C would blow out the vents like its suppose to and then slowly quit working.

This seems to me like a vacuum leak and I hope I don't have to rip the dash out of my truck to find the leak. As far as the cruise issue,I thought the engine pc controled the cruise and it was not controled by vacuum any longer.

Where do I start looking?

Thanks-Casey

Nobody? Come on fellas, help a guy out. I drove the truck yesterday and the A/C worked off and on, going between blowing out the vents and back to the heater vents. Where do I start?

Can't help you with the first problem, but the A/C problem sounds like either a recirc or blend door problem. You might try popping out the blower fan (passenger side, under the glove box, disconnect the cable, easy to do in 10 minutes), sticking you hand up in the hole and see if there is anything that broke off. If that's not it you will have to take part of the dash out. There is an issue of TDR that shows how, and a thread with links to a video that shows the process, but I forgot the title of the thread. I'll search for it later if I have time, but it was in the last couple of months that it was active.

Cruise problem may be the stop light switch sticking. That was my problem on a 98 v-10 when I had the same problem.

On my 04, the vacuum pump is located on the firewall on the passenger side, pretty much right below the hood hinge. Yours is probably in the same place. Follow the plastic tubing that comes out of it, along the cowl. There might be a hole in it. There was on mine, and it caused my cruise to act funny, as well as the vacuum pump ran all the time with the key on.

Check vacuum pump as stated. Follow plastic line. . there is a tee fitting where it splits between line going to resevoir in cowling for inside ductwork and resevoir for cruise under driverside battery iirc.

I just recieved the latest issue of the TRD magazine and someone else was having the same issues as I'm having. If you haven't had a chance to read the mag,it turned out to be a vacuum leak. I believe it was on a second gen truck, but a vacuum leak is a vacuum leak.

I'll start checking for leaks. Does anyone know if cruise on the third gen trucks still has vacuum assist? Its raining cats and dogs here and my garage is full,so its been a while since I've been under the hood.

Thanks for the imput fellas-Casey

By the way,if anyone knows the link for the video about ripping into the dash, please post it or a PM would work.

I believe that in '05 Dodge started using electronically controlled cruise controls. The '03 and '04 models still have a vacuum pump. I had to change the vacuum pump on mine. Got in my truck to go to work one cold morning this past winter, turned the key on and the was a heck of a racket coming from the engine compartment on the right side. Sounded like somebody was in there with a sawz-all. Did that for two days and then it stopped. After that, I had no cruise control. Replaced the vacuum pump and the cruise has worked fine ever since.

Didn't find the link to the thread where the link to the video was originally posted, but here's the link to the video on YouTube:

Part 1: YouTube - Dodge Ram Air Door repair Heater AC HeaterTreater

Part 2: YouTube - Dodge Ram Part 2 HeaterTreater

Part 3: YouTube - Dodge Ram part 3 HeaterTreater

Long but interesting series of videos. If I remember correctly, someone mentioned that the video doesn't show the one part they were waiting to see, but the rest of it is pretty clear.
