Am looking at a used 2006 4wd 6 spd CTD LB SRW and it has a 2 inch leveling/lift kit on it. Why do people put these on and is it a problem to take them off??

Thanks

I'm about to put one on my 2005 3500 Dually. The front end is bottoming out when going over pot holes, railroad tracks, or speed bumps. It gives the front suspension more travel.

If a new spring is being used to level the truck then it will give increased travel. If it is one of the discs that is inserted above the stock spring then the travel will not be increased as it is the same spring. However, in your case, if it is the disc . . . it is fairly easy to remove. If it is a new spring, you will need to find or purchase a new stock spring to replace the leveling spring. I would say that the latter is not worth the effort.

Springs

Agreed, would need a spring that actually increased travel. I'm looking at the Lorenz Leveling kit and pacbrake airbags

The two inch leveling kit does what it says, levels the front and rear of the truck. Some people put it on to clear slightly larger tires. It increases wind resistance (raises the front of the truck) which cuts down mpg's. Like everyone else says, the spacers that go above the springs come off pretty easy.

I added the level kit to my truck because the front end ride was terrible and yes it will bottom-out on any type of speed bump. You will be amazed at the difference in the ride when comparing the stock coil spring vs. the level kit. One issue to level kits is that your truck will appear to sag more in the rear when pulling so my remedy was to add air-bags. I can tell you air-bags was probably the best after-market thing I have installed on my truck to date. The air-bags ride great when loaded in addition they prevent the "buck" when empty. Again I am a big fan of the level kit assuming yours is simply a coil spring lift rather than the "disc" mentioned above. My . 02 ... ... ... Southbound
