Just bought new to me 04.5 3500,177,000 miles am installing BBI injectors,Smarty Jr.,and Fass system.I had read somewhere that you can use other filters on Fass, something about a 2 micron hydrollic filter that can be used.Anyone have apart #
I have one of the long style 3 micron filters left from the Fass that I sold on my 2004. Geno's also carries them, FS1003, rated 3 microns by Fleetguard.

A Fleetguard rep told us that there is generally no difference between 2 and 3 micron ratings since the measuring equipment has to extrapolate to get there--the ratings are approximate and subject to some "marketing strategy" I guess.
A micron rating with no qualifier means nothing unless you know how the filter supplier has tested the filter. Filter test standards changed just over 10 years ago and filters that once could be called 2 micron capable became 4 micron capable - GM stopped making the test dust and a new test dust replaced it and testing now is limited to a minimum of 4 microns. A Beta 75 rating for a 4 micron filter means 98.7% of particles 4 microns or larger are stopped (74 out of 75 particles are stopped). A Beta 50 rating is much different. Companies may still use the old rating system to make their filters seem better, but when pushed to reveal what method was used they may or may not come clean. One filter I am aware of that was a 2 micron at B75 that went to 4 micron at B75 is the Cat 1R0750 due to the new test dust that is used. And yes - it is very difficult to measure when down at the 2-4 micron range, tests are conducted under lab conditions. Real world conditions will vary.
Yeah, doubt ther eis any filter out there that is a true 2 um by the new standards. If it is the flow rates might start to get restrictive. A 3-4 um filter is what is recommended for the HPCR system with 5 um being the absolute highest it will tolerate. Even then, its in the 1000's of hours before a 5 um would should significant damage. Your bets bet is multi-pass filtration. You drop a solid 3 um between the OE filter and the CP-3 then you don't need that freat at the FASS a 10 um thru a 5 in the OE housing then a 3 final will get a solid filtration and keep the flow decent. Worry more about better water separation at the FASS than filters.
