Dennis- the 2-speed axles are still out there for the big rigs and dumps, etc. , but I haven't seen a "smaller" 2-speed axle that would replace the Dana 80. Doesn't mean it's not out there. What is out there is either the US Gear 2-speed aux transmission or the Gear Vendors over/under OD. The result (especially the US Gear) is exactly like a 2-speed rear, uses an electric servo shift. The GV uses a hydraulic clutch powered by a pump driven by the driveshaft and a sun gear. It shifts a bit quicker and smoother, but can't split all the gears ( doesn't work until there's enough speed to get the pressure up) and is not really designed for exhaust braking. I use mine with a 5-speed, and effectively get 3rd, 4th and 5th over, so you could call it an 8-speed. The US Gear would do all speeds. I find I mostly use 4th over and fifth over to suit different driving situations, and only split gears for a heavy load. Hope that helps. JJH
