I was told that my '93 D250 has two speed sensors. I already knew about the one next to the transmission, but I was told there is also one on top of the rear differential. What is the functional difference between the one on the transmission and the one on the rear differential? How many miles do these sensors last before needing replacement?

The sensor on the rear axle is for the rear wheel anti-lock brake system, how long it will last is unknown to me. My pickup has just over 247,000 miles and still using the original sensor on the transmission, AFAIK.
