I own a 2008 6. 7 automatic SRW with 20,040 miles. Warranty expired 2 weeks ago. Truck hasn't been fired up for about 6 weeks. Bottom of trans pan is wet and some bolts are/have been dripping. 4 or 5 quarter size drops of oil on floor under trans pan. Dealer said warranty expired so bring lots of $. Thought I should check the torque on the pan bolts first. What do they torque at? The ******* changed oil, filter, etc. about 100 miles ago. Bottom of engine is dry. Help.

Gently tighten the pan bolts then drive it. The torque converter may have drained back and overfilled the transmission due to sitting for six weeks.

It is odd for a new one to be leaking like that under normal operating conditions but don't panic. A catch pan with a little oil absorbent under the truck when it is parked in your garage would be a lot cheaper than having the dealer work on it.

Next time the transmission is due for service make sure the pan is reinstalled and torqued correctly with a new gasket or sealer as required after it is removed for draining fluid.

Check the fluid level, too. When I had my 2005, I noticed it leaking and it was overfilled. It took it a while to start the leak. I got the level right and it stopped and I had no more problems.

Also, your dealer is being an *****. Usually Dodge will go ahead and cover it if it is this close to the warranty expiration. All the dealer has to do is ask and the regional guys will usually give them the green light to repair it. It is good customer service.

I called the dealer again and offered to have the truck towed the 25 miles to their location. The computer should show the last time it was started it was under warranty. All major service has been done on schedule by a dodge dealer. The dealer said drive it in. I have a 10:00 apt. Friday. If it is the pan gasket Im OK with that since I was thinking of changing Trannie fluid now anyway. Truck is only used to tow a 12,000 pound 5th wheel toy hauler. That's why it only has 20,040 miles in 3 years. I'll let you know the results. Thanks Rick

X2. You can investigate / fix this yourself... Torque on the 45RFE pan bolts (which the 68RE is based on) is 105 in-lbs.

Do not try tightening the pan bolts,it uses rtv and the pan will not be the leak(very rare) Look at the manual lever seal,it is the most likely source of your leak

Good News! Took it to the dealer today. They said it was the pan seal. They pulled the pan and put it together with silicon sealer. They said Dodge doesn't use a regular gasket. NO CHARGE!! They said they didn't want a unhappy customer. They even washed it. If you are ever in NW S. Dakota I highly recomend Scott Peterson Motors.

I had a similar deal with my Jeep Liberty transmission. My local Dodge Jeep dealer did transmission service and soon after the trans was leaking. Took it back in and they resealed the trans pan, NO CHARGE, washed the rig. BOB=HAPPY GUY
