I am trying to learn about the braking system that came on the trucks in 2000. I have noticed i do have some sort of a abs system but it is not noticable while driving. I am on ice all winter and this will lock up all the time. From what i have learned i do not have abs the front, only one hose goes to caliper on front and i have drums on the back. I do not nessasarly want the abs but i do want to make sure i am getting the best braking ability. Also the ABS light only comes on for a few seconds on start up.

Thanks

Probably same as my early 01: front disc, rear drum, with rear wheel ABS. Next time you're on ice, lock up all 4 and watch the rear wheels to see if the ABS is working. Mine works sometimes... Not sure what DC had in mind with this setup, maybe less likely for the rear to come around in a skid?

There is a abs mech on the rear third member that’s the abs gear with a wire coming out. One bolt holds it in . I never felt like my rwal ever really acted like it was rwal didn’t ever really like the brakes in my y2k for eighteen years. It’s the way they were set,my buddy’s 01 is better.
