Hello All,

My brother has a 2000 5. 9. He has a problem with his brakes. In his own words... .

2000 Dodge Cummins lost all breaks. Break pedal goes to the floor, no breaks, no pressure. Have replaced rotors and pads on the front, break cylinders and shoes in the drums on the rear, have bled breaks numerous times. Have heard that it could have to do with the power steering pump... Steering seems fine. Have heard breaks and power steering pump work in conjunction with each other. Is it the power steering pump, or could it be something else that I am unaware of. Have checked fuses and relays also, they seem to be fine.

Usually when brake pedal goes to the floor it is the Master Cylinder.

From 96 Service Manual: Brake pedal falls away

"A brake pedal that falls away under steady foot pressure is generally the result of a system leak. The leak pointcould be a at a brakeline, fitting, hoseor caliper/wheel cylinder.

Internal leakage in the Master Cylindercaused by worn or damaged pistons cupsmay also be the cause of the problem.

If leakage is severe, fluid will be evident at the or around the leaking component. However, internal leakage in the Master Cylinder may not be physically evident. "
