Double post here, other one is in the 911 forum. I am desperate.

Looks like I need help from my friends at the TDR. As you can see from the title I am having some transmission trouble. The truck tried to do it yesterday, but when I shifted in and out of neutral it came back to life. Tonight, a totally different story. There I was going to church and the truck will not go faster than 25MPH and will shift down to 1st, but not out of 2nd.

Were should I start? the truck is in the driveway with the battery cables disconnected hoping that I can do the TPS reset.

I saw in an old post that it may be the pressure sensor for the transmission - if that is the case, can a mortal man do this in his driveway, or do I need to take it to the shop.

Thanks for the help

it sound like your truck is in "limp mode" it could be a solenoid or transducer problem.

you can do a search on here and use limp mode as your search.

hope this helps

do you have the code 0720? if so then thats what just happened to me. it was a output shaft speed sensor. i went to autozone and bought one for $22. took 30 seconds to change.

My son has a '02 and his took forever to shift out of first, and never shifted out of second. He was about 300 miles away from me close to Houston. I talked to a trans shop I have good relations with and they told me that over 90% of the time when they encounter that problem they change the governor pressure solinoid(sp). I told my son, he got one from a Dodge dealer $112 +/- replaced it himself along with a new filter and fluid and that fixed it. It is located on the valve body, you can see it when you remove the pan. I don't know if the transmission are close to the same but it sounds kinda of like the same problem

Well, the problem is back. I tried to go to work this morning and stuck in Limp Mode again. I am going to pull the batteries, check the grounds and do the APPS again before I pull the pan.

Does Autozone or Napa carry the gov press solenoid?

Just fixed some thing like this. Mine wouldnt shift out of 1st till around 2500 rpm, or it started off in 2nd. Ended up be the soleniod.

I don't belive you will find the parts anywhere but the dealer... a good transmission shop that works on lots of Dodges might have them.

I have the part numbers somewhere and I am looking, you can try searching the TDR for them too. .

So, I tried to reset the apps with the pedal after work - didn't work.

Next, I reset the APPS in Accordance with DTT website - match pin 23 with what is on the back of the APSS - didn't work.

Took batteries to Autozone to get tested, 11 months old - they are good to go -

So, Back to the beginning, with some troubleshooting completed. All in favor of dropping the transmission pan say Aye!

While I have the pan off, I guess I should change the sol, the press sw, and the filter?

It is Fixed!!!!

Turned out the Output Speed Sensor had crapped out - thanks to Mike at Hotroddiesels.com and Bill at DTT there help saved me a lot of money.
