Archived 2000 2500 won't start

I'm searching & reading as I post, I've had my truck since nov 03 It had 100'000 on it & appeared to be well maintained. I found yall within a month and thanks to this site I changed the crank sensor and have been jellyrolling till now. but yesterday it started stumbling while accelerating from stop to normal speed. Ran fine at 70mph. I've felt it miss a few times before but didn't pay much attention. I stopped to fill up and Idle was awful. while i was filling up I bled filter to look for water. truck started fine but when i got to the street & had to stop for traffic, motor wouldn't idle & died. tried for a while to crank it with no luck. finally after cranking for way to long and pumping accelerator it fired up ran for about 5 seconds & died. I got it to do this twice. Had to have my brother in law drag me home with his half ton chevy, 40 miles down I-20. It was a lesson in humility. I have no gauges, tried the key thing to look for codes, all it says is P done , any help is appreciated. lift pump runs & sounds good. I have not cracked any fittings yet. Did stop at dodge house & talked to their deisel mech, he said it sounds like injector pump. I aint got that kind of money! HELP PLEASE

If it was me I think the first thing I would do before buying a VP pump would be to change the fuel filter and then check and make sure all of your fuel lines where tight and not sucking any air in the system before I dumped money into that VP

Have fuel pressure test done to see if pump is actually pumping correct pressure.



Make sure you did not accidently fill up with gasoline. (Make this number one. )



Open up banjo bolt on side of injector pump and see if fuel is getting that far (fuel pump needs to be running).



If diesel fuel is getting that far try bleeding at fuel injector bolts.



That's all I can think of now.

First,

Change your fuel filters!!! They are inexpensive. You probably purchaced bad fuel.

If it is that, I hope that your VP is not shot. They typically have some code, like p1989 or the p02## (I can not remember the rest) which could possibly indicate a failed injection pump.

I hope that it is something simple.

Thanks guys I installed fuel filter, fp gauge & new lift pump and am back on the road. gave a little more detail in post on 24v forum. thanks again for all yalls help!
