Dump truck question

Hey Everyone

I have a 2000 3500 that appears to have no trailer wiring in the back. The truck has a non factory hitch and a poorly installed 6 way connector spliced into the tail-light harness, its only wired up for tail, turn, and stop lights at that . Is it possible that the truck didn't come wired, or has some genious gone and changed it? The truck does have the factory brake control plug under the dash but nothing in the back I could see. Is there a factory "plug and play" harness I can buy to get me back to a 7 way connector? Thanks a ton for any info!

Clark,

If someone hacked up your original wiring (beyond repair), PN 82401265 is the factory add on harness up to '97. Best I can figure is that after '97 all trucks came with trailer wiring but don't quote me on that.

I installed this kit in my 96. It is about $90.

So what do you do if you've got the wiring harnes & plug at the back, and it works for the lights- but you wantto add a brake controller & there's no plug under the dash?

This one has me confused on our 95.

If you have the 7 pin plug, search under the hood and dash for the blue brake wire. You will probably have to wire the controller plug in yourself once you locate (or add) that wire. The ground and brake sense wires would probably not be there and would have to be added. My 96 had none of them so I ran the blue wire thru a hole in the firewall. Power and ground was added and run directly from the battery. The brake sense wire was tapped with a Scotchlock connector.
