Ok, I know it has been mulled over for quite a while. I have searched, and read as much as I can find about the issue of grinding the rear drums, and sometimes the ball joints/tie rods. I have read the following links:

My question is, over the past months/years or so, has anyone found or heard of a better way to make these newer aluminum wheels fit an older model 2nd gen truck? I. E. modify the wheels instead of the truck so they will fit properly without modifying the tie rods, ball joints, or rear drums. I think this would be a better deal instead of modifying the drums, ex: what happens when you put new drums on the truck? If you would modify the wheels themselves you could put them on multiple truck/rotate the wheels, etc.



I have not taken a look at the new wheels on an older model, so I dont know how they are made, I am just asking for some expertiese in the area. Would it work??? Or, just give me some imput. I have a guy willing to trade me even for his stock wheels off a 2000, for my stock wheels off a 1998. Seems like a good deal to me, my tires are definately in the "may-pop" category, and his have at least 15K more in them. He just likes the shiner, chrome look. I am just looking for input, let me know what you think.

There isn't enough material on the new stock rims to modify them anyway by removing material from the edges.



The only thing you could do - which would be very expensive.



Have someone cut the rim, and remove 1. 5" from the inside, weld them back together and have a 6. 5" rim again - instead of the stock 8".

How about any of you guys that have fitted the wheels to your trucks?? How was the fit, was there major material to remove, do you have any pictures of what needs to be removed, or pics of the componenets after the material has been removed.
