Hi, I am trying to help a fellow fireman get his daughters 2000m ctd started over the phone, shes stranded out of town. This was apparently an almost sudden problem, being difficult to start only over the few days prior. Symptoms... . turns over good, appaers batt voltage ok, But will not fire. She says that when she hit the drain lever on the fuel filter nothing came out. At this point I am thinking to advise her to loosen fuel filter cap, and bump the engine to see if the lift pump turns, and spits out fuel? If it does not, is this enough evidence to purchase a lift pump? If anybody can help w/ further diagnosis, or advice I would gladly appreciate it. Thanks R. L. Fogleman (frog)

With the drain open there should be fuel gushing with the starter bumped or the engine cranked. If there is no fuel you have a few choices:

Out of fuel

Transfer pump shot

Electrical problem

Obstructed fuel line
