I have a 2000 24v and 2 weeks ago I installed new injectors, at the same time I pulled the fuel filter, emptied the filter housing and cleaned a bunch of black sediment out of it, installed a new filter and cycled the key/starter to refill the filter housing (this was my first mistake, I now realize I should have refilled the housing with diesel!). Anyway it finally fired and ran, I backed it out of the shop, shut it off and restarted it no problems. I got it home and tried to start it the next day and it wouldn't fire but the fuel pressure would come up and then you could crank on it while depressing the accelerator pedal and it will fire and run fine, but now I have to go through this drill about 90% of the time when I start it whether its hot or cold. Sometimes when you turn the key on the fuel pressure will come up to around 10 momentarily then fall back to 0 (it did this prior to the injector swap and would start fine) but other times you can turn the key on and nothing happens on the guage, however if I bump the starter the FP guage will jump up to 15 psi ( you can hear the pump running also) for several seconds and then come back down and I have to go through the crank and depress accelerator routine to get it to fire. I know this can not be good for the starter or batteries. I thought maybe I had some air in the system but it should have worked its way out by now and once started it runs great. Anyone have any ideas/experience on this one. Thanks in advance for your help.

un due the filter housing lid and bump the starter to get the F/P running to get all the air out, it can get trapped in the housing and cause that problem

let us know if this helps

Was the black sediment really an algea? If so it needs a dose of algecide to clean it up. It will block filters. There is one in the tank too.

Go to NAPA and ask for biocide.

The sediment could have very well been algae it was a very dark brown to black in color. Where/how do you get to the filter in the tank? That is interesting, I will check into that. The bumping the starter to burp the air out didn't seem to do the trick. I think that I will go through the APPS reset procedure after work today and see if that does anything. It almost seems like it has a slight low end miss like when pulling away from a stop sign. What really stumps me is that it didn't do it before the injector change... ... .....

Tried the APPS reset and tried purging the air out of the filter housing to no avail. Once I bump the starter and the fuel pressure comes up if I start cranking and push the accelerator to the floor it will fire and run... ..... any  other ideas?

I have the 1693 Companion code and I think it was a 1687 code. I forgot to write it down before I did the reset... .....

you may have a vp44 going south, there is a plunger in it that may not be working, i sometimes have a hard start problem bump the key let the pump run for 2-3 sec. and it will run fine, you may have gotten a piece of dirt in it when you changed the filter.
