I have 2000 Dakota extra cab (2 doors) and the electric lock on the drivers door has failed again. The assembly that fails is the catch that bolts into the door. Specifically, The electric portion seems to jam and that disables the other functions (lock button, key, outside handle, inside handle). I have taken the assembly apart as far as I dare and I pulled a small gear segment out so everything now works normal except the electrical functions.
Rather than replace the assembly I am considering adapting an aftermarket system that attaches to the lock button rod. What I don't know is What is driving the factory door lock circuit. If its a computer module of some type than I would probably leave it alone or replace the failed assembly, rather than risk overloading the drivers in the comp module.
Does anyone have a manual and time to look up the door lock electrical schematic to see what the deal is?
I already know the pin out at the door connection:
Pin 1 Door ajar sense
Pin 2 Ground
Pin 3 Door unlock driver
Pin 4 Door lock driver.
Thanks,
Scott
