Oo. I am at 123K and my front brakes on my 2000 Dodge 4x2 need to be replaced. Looking in my 2000 Dodge shop manuel there is discussion on the 4x4 and the rotor pictures compared to my truck do not look exactly the same although the proceedure may be very close. It speaks of the ABS sensor being disconnected under the hood and the removal of the shoes, rotors, etc. .

I have all the tools but not REALLY interested in getting into difficult problems when I don't need to.

My question to the experts is this something that can be fairly easily done at home ?

Did front brakes on my 99 2wd and it was pretty easy. Hardest part is that heavy caliper. Not sure if 2000 were different, but really it wasn't a big deal on the 99, just regular hand tools. Sorry to hear you need new rotor's too, that might get spendy.

Easy on my '01 also. Your '00 should be the same. I got new rotors from Advance Auto online for $106 shipped to my door. The in-store rotors were $80 each! I asked the guy if they had a hub on them for that price. He pulled one from stock and it obviously did not. The 2 I got via the web site looked pretty much the same and shipping was pretty quick.

I actually used a floor jack under the rotor to hold it steady while removing the spacer nuts.

I got rebuilt calipers from Advance for $75 each (in-store stock) and used Performance Friction Carbon Metallic brake pads.

I tried to get away w/o replacing the calipers but they were both stiff and I almost ruined my new rotors just going around the block. Needless to say I had to take it all apart to do the calipers the next day. Those front wheels are heavy and torquing 16 lugs to 150ftlbs gets old pretty fast.

Thank You

You all give me acourage and i thank you !

Going out the door and attack, on the one question on ABS sensor, I couldn't see why it needed disconnect, but the book refered to doing so under the hood, maybe on a 4x4 it is different, In the book on the 4x4 it looks like the bearing and all have to come off, but my hub is not built that way, as mine just looks like a flat brim hat with 8 studs in the top... ... . The piccture in the book shown the rotor hooked to the main hub and mine is not that way... ... ...

OK, off I go to get parts and then to the airwrenches... ..... LOL

Thanks again... ... ... ... ... .

All model years 2000-2002 front rotors are bolted on outboard and remove easily. http://dodgeram.org/tech/new00/new_for_00.htm

I was just going to say this. 1999 and earlier the rotor was mounted behind the hub/bearing and required the hub/bearing to be removed to get the rotor off. 2000 and newer the rotor was mounted outboard of the hub/bearing. When removing the hub/bearing you need to disconnect the ABS wire or you will be on a very short leash. The wire can be disconnected at the plug under the hood or by removing a screw and pulling it out of the hub/bearing.

ALL D o n e

Oo.

The job is complete, new rotors and new shoes, the one shoe on inside passenger was ALL gone. I should have believed my wife when she said she felt a vibration on the floor board a few weeks back. The rotors on the 4x2 were easy to remove. The junk the highway department sprays all over the roads in the winter time driving was coated over everything; such messy stuff. Two things I didn't have that required another trip to town was a star wrench for the back side and an 18mm socket for the main bolts, but now I have a new 18mm socket and two new star wrenchs. Less than $200 for all the materials and $20 to my grandson for his muscle.

I thank you all !
