This is open to anyone on the forum.

I have a 2000 ram 3/4 ton 5 speed 24 valve PU with about 88000 miles. Just had the main fuel pump and lift pump changed out but now the truck seems to really be a black smoker. It runs great lot of power . Put a clean air filter on and good clean fuel. Anyone know of something I might take a look at? Thank you for any help SAM :-{}

Sam, the first thing to look at is whether you have a boost leak. the boots in & out of the intercooler ar notorious for coming loose. Also, do you have gauges? Fuel pressure, boost & exhaust gas temp. ?

Without gauge readings that's kinda tough to troubleshoot, but the boost leak idea would be a good place to start. The intake horn and the tube between it and the intercooler were probably removed to replace the injector pump, so I'd start by checking the boots on that side (driver's side).

2000 too much smoke

Thank you both. Yes I do have all the gauges and have about 23... ..... 28 pounds of boost and can get the pyrom to clime up under hard step. I will go out and look at all hose /all connections . Thanks again SAM

Is the truck stock? Did the shop put a stock VP on or is there a chance you got a hot rod pump?

23 to 28psi is a good bit of boost on a stock truck.

No this truck is not stock. It would give a good blast of smoke before and then clear but since the new pumps it will really dish it out. I can turn the comp box off or set it at ( ANY ) setting and get the smoke . This is a new box also from EDGE. It does move but I did not have all this smoke before. Thanks for your input. SAM

Smoking at Altitude

Did you find the problem with your 2000? You have an Edge EZ box?

I have a similar setup and have some black smoke at low boost, usually below 1500 rpm. I've turned down the EZ box to the #2 setting with no change in low boost smoke. I bought this box to increase the fuel mileage, but may be losing out at low rpm. Boost and temps are still normal.

Just got back from a 3200 mile trip in the mountains and 100 deg heat. It really will smoke at 4000-10,000 ft when off boost. It's really fun to blow by sports cars on 8000 ft passes with a camper.

Any idea how to clean this up?

Specs: 2001, HO, 6-sp, 4" exhaust, KN filter stock air box, Edge EZ on #2, boost elbow, max boost about 25 psi, max temp after turbo about 1100 deg.
