2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2000 stock alloy wheels

Will the alloy wheels from the early 2000's 16x8 size fit on a 96? I've always ran 285 75 16's on my truck. So I ordered some from costco and the guy questioned the size and looked to see them on my truck and said ok and ordered them. Now today i show up to have them installed and a different guy says no we won't install them on the factory 16x6 rims. So I found a set of 2000 16x8 alloy wheels for a reasonable price but i seem to remember someone telling me that they won't fit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Costco's policy is to only mount stock size tires according to my store.
They'll order but not mount.
