Well the dealership called and the throwout bearing has destroyed the clutch. I figured as much so is not a surprize. My question is what replacement clutch is out there for a 2007 with a 6. 7 and who sells it and who has one and how is the one you bought doing. I had them replace the clutch with a factory unit, same for the throwout bearing as well. i was not sure if the aftermarket 5. 9 throwout bearing and southbend clutch would work on the 6. 7? Anybody have a bad clutch and throwout bearing on the 6. 7 updated with aftermarket unit?? Thanks in advance... .

We've sold several of the Perfection Hy-Test replacement package... . its a complete new design and is also sold through the NAPA chain... . (NAPA Box) don't know where your at in the country... This package was highlighted in one of past issues of the TDR and is a pre-assembled package... solid flywheel, clutch, and is a complete assembly... As I remember the package is in the $550-650 range. . I'm at home and don't have access to the office computer...

Hope this helps...

Our own GCroyle, right here on TDR can give you any info you want on the Perfection Clutch line for your truck... ;)

I've heard great things about the Perfection line of clutches from fellow professionals, and I've installed three Southbend clutches in '07+ trucks. South Bend requires a changing of the flywheel due to the dual-mass, ratcheting, OEM, POS. But going back to the one piece flywheel with the machined in bearing(instead of the pilot bushing or needle bearing) should be a once in a lifetime purchase, depending on how you abuse your truck... . Of course, so should the Southbend clutch. On two 6. 7s we have installed all the 5. 9 engine components and ECM, and it runs really well. 5. 9 programmers are compatable, too! Sooooo, now you know why the Southbend has been installed on those two. The other has the H&S programs and runs pretty well. And the Southbends perform excellent. The one double disk clutch makes noise like a DD cluth, but it performs just as expected. I have two installed in my personal trucks, and intend on only using Southbend from now on, at least in upgrade jobs.

Wondering? asking for upgraded clutch replacement parts recomendations and saying that a dealer installed the OEM stock setup in the same post?

kinda putting the cart before the horse ?

machined in pilot bearing dont they install with a socket a shop mallet ? i still like the old school stuff at least it worked and was serviceable at a cheaper price,

5. 9 ecm on a 6. 7 like that idea

Well I hear ya, but nobody knew and i asked and asked around all of the parts stores, i was praying somebody would know and post up while the truck was waiting on the dual mass new stock set up, I started to let a local garage do the install but was worried they would not have any expereince with the throwout bearing and checking the input shaft for wear. At least i got it into a dealer where it will have a warranrty and the factory part put back in granted it was prob a bad design, i had hunters on the ranch and no time to try to figure out what was the best update, where to get it and how much would it cost and where and when would it be running again. Better the devil clutch throwout bearing set up you know vs wondering. At least now anybody reading this will know who has the setups to update and have better clutch and longer life and save money as well, i just am anout to walk out the door to go get it, the bill is over $2300, throwoutbearing let go into the dual mass set up and suposelly ruined it, they saved the parts t show me and i will post up pictures and prices when i get it.

Austin,

Sorry, guess I didn't make it clear. South Bend uses a large, @ 1. 5 or 2" O. D. ball bearing, pressed into the flywheel, instead of the small needle bearings or bushings. They are easily replaced when the flywheel is removed(you could use a hammer and socket if you wanted), but they have a much greater longetivity, load bearing capacity, and help alleviate stress on the transmission input shaft. And the standard bearing, if I looked at it right, is a somewhat common DD203 bearing used in many agricultural and industrial applications, easily available from most parts stores, bearing houses, and industrial supply warehouses. The cost is actually less than the pilot needle bearing. I really like the craftsmanship and quality used in building South Bend Clutches. So much, in fact, I became a dealer for them, and I usually sell one or two a month.

The electronics on the 6. 7 from the 5. 9 takes a great deal of time and cost. Looking at invoices, I beleive the cost from the dealer, wholesale, is just over $5,000. I don't think that's practical, but I'm just charging for labor, so... . The other came off a salvage truck, was purchased much cheaper, and while still pretty high, the fuel savings and performance will pay for the parts over the life of the vehicle. My ranch truck with the H&S system will pay for the H&S programmer and exhaust kit in less than two years in fuel savings alone, not counting how many pasture fires will be prevented.....
