i have a 2000 ram 2500 with an automatic trans lately it will light up the trans temp light. I pull over and stop within 10 to 20 seconds after this occures and check the pan temp with my laser temp gauge and every time it registers 170 degrees, also checking the lines to the cooler in front of the radiator registers within 10 degrees of the trans. The truck only has 56000 miles on it, and the fluid looks perfect and full. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Did you ever get an answer to your question? Just found your thread on a search. I too have a 2000. While towing 10K or so, up grades, I will loose OD before I need to shift down, and then the temp light comes on.

still no help on this but i did buy gauges to keep an eye on it. only happened a couple times since gauges were installed but still only around 170 degrees when it happened.
