Ok got the GF's gauges in this weekend... unlike my 99 where I took my fuel pressure right off the top of the fuel filter cap, I hooked the mech gauge right to the VP pump, on the schrader valve, what I need to know is what should the pressure be at this point... with my 99... (and a new lift pump) I run 14 idle and never drop below 10 @ WOT,,,today we hooked up the 36' horse trailer and 2 horses and headed out... her idle is only about 10,,and as soon as we took off it was right at 6... then the first hill it went to 0. @22 psi boost running about 2200 rpm... is her lift pump bad??? Some of the smaller hills it would drop to 3 and maintain around there until we were running level... she running a 00, 3500, 6speed, 4:10's, all stock so far except for the gauges... on the big hill the pyro read 1000... its post turbo... thanks for any info... i can change the lift pump tomorrow if need be... thanks again... Russ

I would say yes her lift pump is failing. Dodge's current specs go by flow and don't go by pressure at all but at one time the spec was never below 8 psi. If it were me I'd replaced it.

I see essentially the same pressures on my model year 2000 Ram (40,00 miles on the transfer pump) at both the inlet & outlet of the water separator/fuel filter housing. The outlet measurement should be the same as the VP-44 inlet.

I second Steve's recommendation.

First things first. Replace the fuel filter & see if that improves the pressure. It's a lot less expensive than a lift pump, but you may end up replacing that too.

Thanks for the info... thats what i was expecting... I've been told not to go below 6psi, and yea i'm gonna change the fuel filter first... but with it dropping to 0 psi... i'm thinkin lift pump... thanks for the info... Russ

Ok changed the fuel filter. . no change in pressure, so went ahead a changed the lift pump... . that was it. . at idle now have 15psi and WOT with the trailer its not dropping under 10... Thanks for the info... Russ

RMcNee, be careful with the pyro temps on that 2000, you said it was a 1000* post turbo on "the big hill". Thats pretty much right at the limit. I would recommend installing that probe in the manifold and plugging the old one. My 2000 never ran that hot when it was stock even pulling some big loads, but it sure does not sound like you have a boost leak @22psi. Good deal with the lift pump, gauges are good!!!!
