Archived 2000 will not start....

My 2000 will not start. I parked the truck came back about 5 minutes later and went to turn the key but nothing not even a click. All the lights, volts are all up and no draining. I pulled the starter and it and the solenoid passed. I haven't put it back on yet. What could be going on here. Thanks for any help.

Dont have my manual at hand, however if I remember there is a 140 amp fuse where the battery cables are connected onthe left fender. have a look. hope this helps.

The first thing that I would do once you get the starter back in is get a friend to try to start the truck and check for power across the solenoid. This will tell you whether you have a problem in the starter or whether the problem is in the wiring before that.



If there is no power to the solenoid, since you have a 5 speed, it is possible that the sensor that checks whether the clutch is all of the way in is not working. I believe that they easiest way to check that would be to unplug it and put a jumper wire across it but I am not sure on that. It may also be worth checking your fuses.



If there is power across the solenoid, another thought would be your starter contacts. When they start to go, it will intermittently stop working. A lot of people can get them to start with bad contacts by banging on the starter with a mallet. I think that this is more of a 12V problem though.

Check the connectors to the batterys , load test the batterys , do the check to see if there is power at the starter , both the large cable-batt. + and small wire at solinoid-thats the wire that turns on the starter with the key in the start pos. , once you've check all these , and all that checks out then , this is best down with a remote starter sw. but can do with a short pice of wire , turn the ing. sw. to on and jump the small wire from ing. sw. to the cable [ both on the starter & solinoid ] and that should start or turn over the truck , and elimit everything els , and if that doesn't work than its the starter & or solinoid , if it does work by jumping and not by key then look at nutrual safty sw. and other stuff.

Promblem fixed.....

After beating me head on the wall trying to figure this out. I opened the power dist. box under the hood and referrenced what the fuses do. I pulled the 20 amp starter solenoid fuse and there it was blown as could be. I put in another 20 amp and she fired right up. I guess I should have started with all the fuses first. I wonder what could have made the fuse blow after all these years. Thanks for your guys help.

I had a similar situation on my '99 and it turned out to be insulation that had worn of the positive cable going to the starter. It made contact with metal under the truck and a direct short happened. Once the worn off area was found it was a quick fix with some electrical tape and a piece of loom. Hope that this helps.
