The old D70 in the truck in my signature has a chipped ring gear tooth and is on the way out. Don't want the expense of buying a new ring & pinion set, then the bearings and etc. , and then having to pay someone to "properly" install everything. To me it's much more efficient to swap out the whole axel.

So what is "preferable" is an 01. 5 - 02 with disc brakes, I'm sure I've said that "I hate rear drums" on at least the TDR at least 10 times over the years so - since it's time to swap out the axel I may as well shoot for rear discs.

If all that is available is a drum break rear then that'll have to do.

My truck is an 8800 GVW and has the snowplow and camper options so I "think" the D70 that's in it now is a D70HD???

If a D70 is all that's available then it must be exact as mine.

If I should be fortunate enough to find a D80 then I'll need the U-Bolts and saddles as the tube on an D80 are larger diameter than the D70 and my old saddles won't work.

Hope someone out there has something that'll work. I'm scrounging the scrap yards around here and all I can find are *ord and *hevy junk, any Dodges I've found are either 1500s or any 2500s have been stripped of all the good stuff . . .

I'm afraid it,s a long way off, but I just listed two adds for a freind that is parting out his 2002. His # is 6016227607.

There was some for sale on here just awhile back, He had d-80 and a d60 for sale, both for 300. 00, look in some of the past threads -classifieds, Monte

Are you looking for a rear axle only? or both front and rear? I have a 1998. 5 4X4 Dana 80 w/ Powerlock and Dana 60 front axle both with 3. 54:1 with 137000 miles, I swaped my axles to get 4. 10:1, let me know if this is something you would be interested in?

Hey guys, thanks for replies. Sorry I don't get on as much as I want to or used to. I acquired a D70 with a power lock out of an early 2nd gen. Had to do some fab work to get "things" (shock and sway bar Mounts) to work. I ended up cutting the things off my rear, cutting them off the acquired rear and then weld mine to it. Since I was doing all this fab work I decided, since I only paid $300 for the rear I might as well invest the money I saved on rear disc conversion. So its all been done for a few months at least now. Oh, the bonus in the new/old rear was there was hardly any wear pattern on the ring and pinion that was dated 2003... .
