I have a 2001 2500 4x4 changed from auto to 5 speed, now i have 2 problems.

1. i cant figure out the neutral switch or the back up light switch,... . have the truck on a push button starter for now.

2. when i first start the truck sometimes it will not go over 1900rpm, sometimes it sits there at 1900 till you make the 1-2 shift and punch it down, then it goes on like normal.

any help is much appreciated.

Not sure but I think you need to put in ECM for a 5spd, maybe a PCM also .

On neutral saftey switch it grounds the the starter relay so when you turn the key to start it activates the relay.

It would be pain to re-wire it so I would just by-pass by tying the wires together at the connector( just remember not to have it in gear or have the clutch disengaged) .

I converted my 2001 to a 6 spd several years ago... .
- no need to change the ECM or PCM UNLESS you still want cruise to work and you don't want to throw codes. I've run mine with the original ECM and PCM with no other issues. Cruise doesn't work and codes thrown are all related to the auto transmission.
- clutch pedal switch... . The only thing that will happen if you don't use the jumper is you will be able to start the truck in gear without depressing the clutch pedal.
- back-up switch... if I remember correctly, I had to install a new switch in the manual trans. and make an extension in the wiring harness.
- rpm issue, sounds like your problem is elsewhere. Do you have any programmers installed? If so, remove them, and try again. Check all of your wiring connections. Reset your APPS (because you are still using your original ECM). The transmission should have zero effect on your engine RPM's
