I was running low on fuel, and headed to the station (about 1/8th tank showing on the gauge. ) At a stop sign for road construction, the "low fuel" light came on, dinged twice, and the truck stumbled and died.

I FINALLY have managed to get the truck off the main road, and have put 5gal in the tank. I've got a pusher pump, and with my pressure gauge, see 18psi at the IP while cranking, but it just won't fire.

Do I need to bleed lines or something? I'm stuck on the side of the road.

2001 CTD 24v 6speed.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

YES... loosen 3 of the the injection line fittings that you can easily reach on the side of the cylinder head, then crank the engine for a few seconds until fuel seeps out pretty good. You might want to stuff some shop towels around the fittings to keep from making a mess. Retighten the fittings, then crank the engine again WHILE HOLDING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. It make take 2 or 3 good tries with the pedal to the floor, but it will eventually catch and run. It'll run like crap for a minute or two then smooth out.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

Rick,
You need to bleed #s 1,3,5 and it will seem like forever. If you have cell phone handy you can give me a call and I will walk you through it. Call me at 386-547-1179 and if you don`t have free min. , I do and can call you back. 19mm wrench.
Good Luck Phil

hmm, I posted last night, but apparently it didn't take. .

so the rundown goes like this:

I tried bleeding the lines, to no avail. I kept jacking with it until it started to get too dark. I walked back to AutoZone and got the dreaded "starting fluid" can. . Gave it about a . 5sec snort through the air filter. She fired then died. Another snort ans she was ready to go.

Thank you very much, guys, for your posts and assistance! I greatly appreciate it, I really do!

I keep a can in truck, Used three times in 12yrs. , but never tell anyone to use it. If they over do it they will damage engine. I can see you know how. Glad you are running again.
Good Luck CAPT PHIL

Thanks, again. Having grown up on a 8000+ acre alfalfa farm, and 20 to 30+ pieces of diesel-powered farm equipment, I'm no stranger to it, or it's destructive tendencies. :)
