I am posting this for a friend ... .

Does anyone know if the Cummins / Jacobs e-brake for the 2000 ETC motors is the correct part for the 2001 ETH motors?

Rating about a 4. 5 on the STHM scale

Cummins told me the 2001 has a different turbo and the E-brakes are not the same.

Just got a disturbing message from Cummins. Can anyone help clarify this. They say the following concerning the exhaust brake for 2001 California vehicles:

"The brake is retrofittable to all model years from 1989 through 1997, one exception being that it must NOT be installed on engines fitted with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves. This restriction is not unique to our product. Engines fitted with EGR must NOT have an exhaust brake of any type installed. The EGR valve is a CARB emissions requirement for vehicles sold and operated in California.

Is this true or did we just get our wires crossed?

Sam, This is the response I got from Jacobs today.

Hello Mr. Schaber,

We do have a brake for that application:

If you purchase it through your Cummins dealer you should use part number
3800780.
If you purchase the kit through your Mopar Parts outlet you should use part
number 82205577.

This kit is applicable for model years '98 1/2 through 2001.

Thank you for visiting our website. We will be updating the website to include
the 2001 engine.

Thank you,

Jacobs Product Support

Tony,

Are these part numbers for the new ETH engine or are they for the ETC?

Kevin,
This is the question I sent to Jacobs:

questions = Does Jacobs have any plans for an E-brake for the 2001 Dodge Ram
with the HO Cummins,(ETH)with the six speed transmission? If so what will be
the possible date of release? Any information would be appreciated by myself
and fellow new Ram owners.

Now if they read it the way I meant it, and I understand the response. It is for the ETH. I have one waiting for me at my local dealer.

Thanks Tony,

My '01 is on order and is to be built the first week of March. I'll let the dealer know what the part number is for the ETH E-Brake sense I think that he may not know that it will have a different number.

I don't know if you've checked the prices of the dealer vs. Cummins shop, but at least in my area, the dealer wanted $1800 for the part while the Cummins shop quoted about $650. I didn't have the labor quoted as I am going to do the job myself.

Dresslered,

Yes the dealer wants $1300 for one installed but I'm like you and will be doing the install myself, the cost for just the unit was $790. My concern was that the dealer would give me the unit for the ETC and not the ETH.

Kevin. I understand your concern, and your dealer seems a little more reasonable on the price than mine. Have you tried calling the Cummins shop? Might still save a little $$$.

Hi Guys, My ETH has a Holset HX35W. I have the above mentioned Cummins E- Brake (#3800780) and it looks as if the 5 bolt flange is an exact match for the turbo output. Cheers, Tom
