I have a 2001. 5 Dodge 2500 6-speed man. we were going down the road and truck quit. It will not restart no fuel could it be fuel selenoid ???
 
Theres only a few reasons a 24v will just up and quit. Need to have your engine codes pulled up and post them up
 
Will the engine turn over with the starter? Do lights and radio work? Gauges?

I don't think the 24 valve engine has a simple fuel solenoid like the 12 valves did. Check for codes in your odometer. It could be something as simple as loose or dirty battery cable terminals, or it could be as expensive as a failed VP-44 injection pump.
 
The original owner of my truck, also a 2001, told me when I bought it that what you describe had happened to him once. He never did find out what caused it but the 50 Amp small square fuse, I think labeled "engine", in the PDC under the hood had blown. Worth a try. I have not had the same thing occur since.

You say "no fuel. "



Are you sure there's fuel in the tank? I ask because a faulty fuel level sending unit (common) can trick you into thinking there's fuel in the tank when it's empty.



Could you please elaborate on how you determined there's no fuel? Do you mean you're not seeing fuel come out of loosened injector lines at the cylinder head of the engine? Or do you mean there's no fuel reaching the inlet of the Bosch VP44 fuel injection pump? Have you checked the fuel pressure at the VP44 fuel inlet?



Your answers will help us guide you in the right direction, but if no fuel is reaching the VP44, the cause could be a failed fuel transfer pump (a. k. a. lift pump) which is located either on the side of the engine block under the fuel filter or inside the fuel tank.

John L This reminds me of when (many years ago) I was a mechanic on the line working my way thru college and the phome would ring and one of my good customers would say something like " My car/truck just went to sputtering, here just listen. " and he would hold the phone up to the car in his garage and ask me what was wrong!!! After that happened a couple of times, I would call my partner over and we would both say in unison "It is the loose nut at the top of the steering column" and then we could perhaps talk the customer into getting us some more information to go on or bring the car/truck in so we could at least hear it sputter ourselves!
