2001 Dies when put in reverse or drive

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2001, reman vp-44, new lift pump (in tank mopar setup), low pressure fuel warning. 94000 miles, Stock truck, automatic. Truck wouldn't start periodically and had multiple pump failure codes. Put in new pump and lift pump, fired right up. One day after installation of fuel pumps (and fuel filter) engine runs great with the exception of dying when put into reverse or forward gear at times, not all the time. The engine does tend to surge a little bit occasionally but runs great other wise. Fuel pressure is 10-11 psi at idle and 8-9 on a hard pull. No codes, lights or any other indication of issues except dying out. Any thoughts of where to look? I hope I didn't get a bad VP-44 from reman.

The first paragraph was my posting from last year. The truck has run fairly good until the fuel mileage went down slowly over the winter. Broke 100k and figured it was time for a set of injectors. Put a set of new, stock injectors in and the mileage came back but so did the dying when selecting forward or reverse and it is also accompanied by hard starting and long crank times. Should I start with re-torquing the connector tubes? Valve lash was set at the same time and wasn't even off at all. Any ideas were to go?

A small update. Started the truck cold this morning after a fuel filter install and it ran great until it started to register temp on the gauge. Once it was starting to warm up it started stalling again when shifted through the gears between forward or reverse. It will also die out when you are sitting still, in gear and blip the throttle slightly.

I'm now of the opinion that my VP44 is suffering from a failing computer. Should I look at cooling off the computer just for diagnostic purposes? I haven't really thought it through but would like to know if anyone else has had this issue and would like to chime in.

Ran another fuel pressure check as Industrial injection is waffling on whether or not they will cover a pump failure. They claim that the OEM in tank pump that I installed is junk and not trustworthy. It is providing 13-14 psi @ idle and 9-10 with a load while driving. I will be pulling the pump off tonight and shipping back to Industrial injection.

Update for anyone interested. I found someone with a breakout box that could isolate the engine from the truck and the engine will not idle on the low idle position. It will run on the high idle position. The pump is going back to Industrial for the second time, hopefully to be returned fixed this time.

09/08/2017 UPDATE- The problem wasn't with the injection pump at all. It ended up being the 5 volt circuit being shorted by oil pressure sensor/switch. We found it by accident while changing the starter. Replaced that part and good to go. The oil pressure switch was leaking oil through the connector. Hope this helps someone in the future.
