Im installing a 2001 engine in a 1999 truck. My question is the 99 has a crank position sensor & the 01 doesnt. Can i use the 01 ecm & engine wiring harness in the 99 or do i have to swap the crank, cam & ecm from the 99 engine into the 2001 engine. The 99 has a 53 block that cracked & i got a good deal on the 01 engine whats the best way to make the 01 engine work in the 99. The truck is a 1999 5 speed manual & the 2001 engine is from an automatic truck. The engine harness from the 01 looks like it will plug into the 1999 truck harness but im not sure if the wires are correct. If anybody can help me i would appreciate it. Thanks.

Another thought, Can i use the 99 wiring harness & ecm on the 2001 engine & just tap into the cam sensor wire for the crank signal. I read a thread earlier where a guy lost his tone ring on the crank & he just tapped into the cam sensor. Any thoughts.

use the 99 ecm and its set-up, or you'll be chasing your tail for a while. the sitck/auto ecms are diff as for the sensors the cam rotates at 1/2 the speed of the crank so ... still not sure why ud swap internals though? long blocks should interchange.

Because the 2001 does not have a crank sensor or a tone ring on the crank shaft. Cummins eliminated the crank sensor on the 2001 & 2002 engines & they use the cam sensor to pickup the engine speed signal.
