I like the oil filter pliers as sold by Griot's Garage (www.griotsgarage.com), Snap-On, Wal-Mart and others. These are nothing more than a large pair of specialty slip-joint pliers. There is NOTHING out there that can remove your oil filter faster. I install the new filter after priming with one quart of oil and lubricating the sealing gasket, HAND TIGHTENING 3/4 of 1 turn after the gasket contacts the mounting surface. I also apply a reference mark on the new filter that aligns with a mark I previously made on the mount to detect any possible loosening tendencies, while performing other routine maintenance or BOMBing operations.
NOTE: Be very careful how you reference the 3/4 turn after oil filter gasket contact with its mount as the Fleetguard label appears twice on the filter case, once right side up, the other inverted. If you use the label as a basis for tightening, this can cause improperly tightened filters if strict attention is not paid.
