Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2001 HO Injector Change Out Procedure???

Hello to everyone in the forum. I've been busy and not around too much over the last year and half. I find myself in need of some help in the way of technical material.



Truck has 1/4 million miles on it now and my beloved 275 injectors that I had installed way back in the 25,000 mark have developed a flutter in them. I have aquired a brand new set from Piers and was going to install them this week end. But one issue has come to light that I need to get the answer to.



When I bought my original set, I had a fellow that I trust install them for me. Wonderfull job. My problem is, he is no longer available to me. So I plan on doing them myself. But alas I can find no procedure or spec on the how to within my factory manuals that I have from Dodge.



So would anyone know of where or can you point me in the right direction for the written procedure with specs for the removal and reinstallation of fuel injectors on a 2001 HO, 6 speed. I would be gratfull.

I have changed injectors five times on my truck, taking all the other stuff off is harder than removing the injectors. An injector puller makes it easier. Figure about two hours+

I just did my 2nd set of sticks this time i went cheap and bought edge jammer stage 3 nozzles they were actually real easy to install. The worst part to changing them for me is gettin the damn valve cover on and off i hate it

What do you need for installing the nozzels? I've got the stage 3 nozzels too and am worried I need to go to a workshop to get it right...

Figure "J" in the DD instructions linked in post in #2 above shows how to pull injectors using a bolt and bent nose needle nose pliers. It's not that hard of a job -hardest part was getting the valve cover off and back on. Tip - place a rag over the insulation under the cowl by the back of the valve cover when removing it to help keep dirt/damaged insulation from falling into back of head. And when you install the valve cover place a rag on top of the rockers as you fan-angle the cover back in place - I guess it goes without saying, but remember to remove the rag before securing the cover



Sounds like a no brainer but I've seen folks get in such a hurry they've actually not noticed the rag hanging out of the valve cover before firing it up

Couple things to watch.
Be careful you don't tear the intake gasket.
I replaced the crossover tube O rings, you can get them from cummins.
Make sure to have new copper sealing washers, i just replaced the tips on my old injectors so i didn't get any new washers with new injectors. Just a heads up, so you have everything on site you may need.

With that many miles go ahead and get a set of o rings for the cross over tubes and change them while your in there. My truck has about the same mileage and I tried to reuse the o rings and it developed a leak so I had to go back in to change the o rings. You can get them from your Dodge dealer for about $4 a piece. Also torque on the injector lines is critical to getting everything sealed.
