I think someone advanced my timing too much and blew my head gasket. Oil is pouring out of the engine betweent he block and the head. Any suggestions? Just a blown head gasket? Truck runs and sounds fine. Is there a heavy duty gasket from cummins? Different studs/ head bolts. I was running probably 43 lbs of boost when this happened.

Not Unusual

The timing on your 2001 is controlled by the ECM, 'nobody' can advance it too far, it is computer controlled.

Your HO has higher compression than an ETH, and the HO's are prone to blowing headgaskets. Especially with a fair amount of boost pumped into the engine.

The usual leak is between the oil gallery that goes around some of the head bolts and the water [coolant] passageways.

It is a bit of a chore to change the gasket, and the head is pretty heavy.

I'm sure someone can post a link to a previous post about doing the whole gasket replacement job.

Hope this helps, Greg L The Noise Nazi

Timing was advanced about 2 degrees

I had someone plug in to the ecm with software and modified the timing. What options are there for a more durable head gasket?
