got a 2001 with the hy35 turbo. Ive got the silencer ring out and intake and

straight 4" pipe, ive got a whine type noise coming from what seems like the turbo. It comes in at higher load and higher rpm. I've checked for a boost leak tightened all the clamps and its still there. The turbo shaft has some play, and if i put pressure on it sideways the shaft is hard to spin. this thing is starting to get annoying. I dont like to pull anything with my truck :--) because of all the noise.

Is this something common/normal, or should i be headed to the dealer (still in warrrenty. ) any advice input and help is appreciated. thanks.

Sounds like you'd be better off putting the silencer ring back on the turbo. That should quiet the turbo down.

Dont get me wrong, i love my turbo whistle cant get enough of that but this sounds more like a whine noise. almost sounds like RFI (radio frequency interference. ) that you can get in the car speakers. I had it in my toyota.

It should not be hard to turn with lateral pressure on it. Sounds like a bad one. If you have a good Dealer, take it in.

MOtero,

If you still have the silencer ring, put it back in, take a spin. Then you can either rule out the silencer ring, or leave it in. If it makes no difference with it in, I'd suggest following AKAMAC's advice and have it looked at.

just my . 03 (cost is going up- just check the price at the pumps) lol

I get what sounds like its the same thing, I think I have an HX though. Silencer ring out, only when im pushin 20-30 lbs of boost. My shaft has some play also (no pun intended) :-laf

thanks for the input guys exept you bro. I'd love to drop in an hx but still got 30k to go on the warrenty. speaking of warrenty has anyone had problems with keeping warrenty with bombs like intake and exhaust. not too worried about it. Got j hook boost fooler and superchip but those will come off of course. I work on trucks with all kinds of bombs under warrenty at chevrolet. just dont know how picky dodge dealer is.

from what i know and from what i hear about round here in town, we, or should i say you should be golden. there are bomb friendly dealers and guys who work with us, i even remember wagn saying something about tdr discounts!
